Lenovo shows off Android 4.0 ICS powered 9.7-inch IdeaTab S2109

Just a few months after announcing the IdeaPad S2, Lenovo has brought the Android 4.0 ICS powered 9.7-inch IdeaPad S2109 to light.
In a YouTube video, Lenovo teased some of the specs of the tablet; it wields a 8.9mm-thick gunmetal unibody case wrapped around a 9.7-inch 1024x768 IPS screen. That's not a very impressive resolution, but it does match the iPad 2--which of course has now been superceded by the new iPad with it's 2048x1536 resolution LCD.
The S2109 comes with the now fairly standard setup of a micro-HDMI port, micro-SD expandable memory card slot, and a micro-USB port. Lenovo opted to only equip the S2109 with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, with no rear camera present. Lenovo also claims the battery life for the S2109 will reach 10 hours. The final bit of info we’ve been given is that the back of the device features four SRS TruMedia-branded speakers. Just to leave us eager in anticipation, Lenovo has not yet revealed the SoC nor the onboard memory capacity for the S2109.
With Lenovo having just recently announced the IdeaTab S2, comparisons are begging to be made between the two. The IdeaTab S2 is just a hair larger than the S2109 at 10.1 inches and packs the brand new Qualcomm S4 MSM8960. That’s just a fact to keep in mind while we wait for further details about what the S2109 may possess. For now price and availability are unknown, but we’ll keep you updated as further details arise.

Where does this fuckwit argument come from that the App Store is everything? When it was Mac vs PC the Apple fanbois certainly didn't think the Mac was a lesser machine for the dearth of software compared to Windows.Android tablets will provide enough software to meet the needs of most users. The idea that you need a tablet version of an app for it to be useful stems from the Apple centric view that apps won't scale up well. In the Android world, apps are written to fit a variety of screensizes anyway. They scale up better. Tablet oriented apps would be ideal, but you're hardly going to cry because you can't have a tablet version of your favourite twitter app are you? Are you?

I'm still waiting to purchase a tablet that can full my needs. I only want to do web browsing and reading. I was so close to pull the trigger on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi, but I read many complaints about the lag that Tegra 2 shows in certain tasks, even with the ICS (CM9).But when I heard about the Kindle Fire 2 and the possibility of a 10" version, I decided to wait a little longer to see which tablet offers me better performance / price ratio.
This Lenovo looks nice, but another factor that I care a lot, is the weight. Hope we see more details soon!

That device has been available for several years now, it is called the iPad.Seriously, the iPad or iPad2 do that perfectly. If you need cameras then the iPad2 makes sense. If you want an amazing display or play games then the new iPad is the best choice.
I can't speak to the Galaxy but I would say stop waiting for the perfect device, this field is going to keep changing rapidly each month for the next few years. At this point any of the good devices will be great to keep around for years as a web browser and you will want a second device in a few years anyway. If you are tied into the Amazon ecoverse then get the Fire, if not find a great price on an iPad2.

I don't need camera and I'm not planing to do gaming. I discarded the iPad because I already have an iPod Touch and the iOS to me is just plain boring. I love Android (using it now on my cellphone) and I think that is the way to go for me.GotThumbs - Wednesday, April 11, 2012 - link

Just like their PC lineup, Lenovo also makes Thinkpad Android tablets, which are pricier, more feature-packed and better specced. I would set my hopes pretty high on an ICS counterpart than this tablet. Whether they plan to make a newer Thinkpad version is unclear, but the one they have now is excellent but generally shadowed by ASUS' Transformer, a fair shame.chillmelt - Tuesday, April 10, 2012 - link
