Introduction

Founded in 2007, Cougar is a relatively new manufacturer that has been making efforts to enhance their global presence. When we posted our first review of their extravagant Challenger case back in 2012, Cougar was just taking their first steps into the North American market. Nowadays, their products can be found in most parts of the world. The German company originally started as a case and power supply manufacturer over seven years ago, but more recently they have branched out into the advanced gaming peripherals market. Today we are looking at two of these new peripherals, the 700K mechanical keyboard and the 700M gaming mouse.

The 700K and the 700M are Cougar's best keyboard and mouse at this point of time. The 700K can be shortly described as an aluminum body, fully programmable mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches, while the 700M is an advanced ergonomic gaming mouse designed specifically for FPS gaming. Their specifications are, at the very least, impressive; unfortunately, so is their retail price, and not in a good way. The 700K and the 700M are retailing for $150 and $70 at the time of this review, pitting them against a long list of other similarly impressive products available from a dozen other manufacturers. Do they have what it takes to stand out from the crowd? We will find out in this review.

Ive been looking for another keyboard without keypad besides the ms sculpt, but not finding it. Can you recommend one? Hopefully ergonomic style? I was under the impression ms sculpt was my only choice for that.

I'd be embarrassed to have that ugly thing sitting on my desk. The orange on my G710+ is bad enough, but that keyboard, uck.

To me the mouse is 100 times worse than the keyboard. I want a gaming oriented mouse that is functional, comfortable and minimalistic instead of looking like something designed by an emo narcissistic teenager

That palm rest is just not right. Look at the right side. Think of where you'd "rest" your right hand in the standard typing position. Yeah... way to the left of the palm rest. Not gonna work.

From the second paragraph of the story. "unfrotunately". Unfortunately no amount of Googling produced the meaning.

Unfortunately you're unable to articulate yourself without coming across as a massive dick.

I just bought a Ducky Legend. I would have liked to have had macro keys, and more than the four media keys on the Legend. I considered the Cougar, but just couldn't handle the yellow backlights. Yellow! Really? The only other option was the Logitech G710, but it felt cheap. How do you make MX Cherry switches feel cheap...

But the backlights of the keyboard are red? and plus you can just switch it off

there is also the corsair k70 rgb in this price range. i got mine for $159. it doesn't have dedicated macro keys but any unused key in your layout can be mapped to trigger macro functions and the macros can include any mouse movement or mouse buttons. that last bit you don't get with the razer software and i'm not sure about logitech as i gave up on the g series when my original g15 refused to have the middle section of keys near u function on certain usb controllers.
